Linda, Chere, and Carolyn spent about 4 hours at GROS in Edinburgh doing genealogy research this morning. The gem find of the day (which had us all in tears) was the birth record of John MacFarlane Steel, youngest son of William and Jane Steel born in 1897. We did not know that "MacFarlane" was John Steel's middle name. William Steel must have thought a lot of our great grand-uncle, John Banks MacFarlane, to name a child after him. We also found the marriage record of William Steel where John MacFarlane Steel was the witness at his brother's wedding to Annie King Becket.
